One fine morning, the Eiffel Tower guard discovers that nothing in Paris is moving. Only a small group of friends, who arrived by plane in the capital, escaped the mysterious paralyzing ray. From now on, Paris belongs to them!
Paris qui Dort was the first film directed by René Clair, paying homage to his city in an original way, capturing the images through the monument that is the most privileged observation point one can have over Paris, the Eiffel Tower, which is also the central protagonist of the film. Filmed in 1923, it is considered the first science fiction film shot in Paris. The work, of an experimental and surrealist nature, contains a strong literary narrative with creative use of satire and criticism of society, characteristics present throughout his work.
Mixing comedy and fantasy, the film is a visionary work that anticipated movements such as surrealism and modern cinema. With experimental editing and impeccable aesthetics, René Clair transforms Paris into a magical and enigmatic setting.
ANA DEUS & MARTA ABREU
ANA DEUS began her musical career in 1987 with the pop group Ban, with whom she released three albums of original material. In 1993, together with the writer Regina Guimarães and the musician Alexandre Soares, she co-founded the group Três Tristes Tigres.
She has musically scored poetry by a wide range of authors. Fernando Pessoa, Camilo Pessanha, Bocage, Luís de Camões, Natália Correia, Judith Teixeira, Sylvia Plath and Rainer Maria Rilke, among others, are some of the writers whose works she has set to music and performed, either as a solo artist or within her projects Osso Vaidoso (with Alexandre Soares), Bruta (with Nicolas Tricot) and Ruído Vário (with Luca Argel). In 2022, she began a collaboration with Marta Abreu entitled “Eu Fui Silêncio”, consisting of readings of texts by censored women authors set against electronic soundscapes. In 2024, she released “Canções de Beber”, together with the singer-songwriter Luca Argel, featuring poetry by Fernando Pessoa (inspired by the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam). In 2025, she released “Arca” with Três Tristes Tigres.
MARTA ABREU was born in Coimbra in 1977 and has lived in Braga since 2004. From an early age, she developed an interest in music, having been the bassist of the all-female group Voodoo Dolls from 1994 to 1999 and, in 2000, of the band Mão Morta, with whom she released “Primavera de Destroços”. Since 2020, she has been responsible for composing the soundscapes for the project Goela Hiante, alongside Adolfo Luxúria Canibal, and since 2022 for the project Eu Fui Silêncio, with Ana Deus. In 2024, she completed a Master’s degree in Media Arts at the University of Minho.
